WhatsApp is always coming out with new features and settings and their latest feature for iPhone and Android mobile phone will completely blow your mind. Once you enable this new feature, any new messages that you send on a chat will disappear automatically after 7 days. However, do remember that this is just an optional feature and won’t affect you if you choose to not enable the feature. You can continue to send and receive WhatsApp messages on your mobile phone as you do right now.
With this feature, your messages to contact will vanish after 7 days and the feature can be enabled and disabled for a chat whenever you want. For a group chat, only the admin will have the option to control this ephemeral messaging feature.
If you wish to enable this feature, then all you need to do is head to the WhatsApp application, open a chat, and then click on the contact’s name. After that, click on the ‘Disappearing Messages’ option and click on the Continue button. Now, select the ‘On’ option and save the settings the feature will be enabled for you. According to a spokesperson, WhatsApp has rolled out this feature for 7 days to give the users some peace of mind that their messages are forever. Also, this 7-day limit applies regardless of whether the receiver reads the message or not and the timer starts the moment the messages are sent.
This way, the sender can be confident that their message will get deleted after a while. It doesn’t matter if the message was read or not. This 7-day rule is quite practical as well because this way, you won’t forget what you have been chatting about. Furthermore, you will still have your shopping or some other list on the chat and it will disappear when you don’t need it anymore.
The ephemeral messaging feature will start rolling out on the Android and Apple devices this month. Since this feature is being rolled out in stages, not every user will receive it in the starting. So, if you don’t see the feature, check back in a few weeks.
