Discharge your iPhone's battery to less than 25% before disassembling it. If a charged lithium-ion battery is accidentally pierced, it can catch fire and/or explode.
Before you start disassembling your iPhone, make sure it's turned off.
Remove the two 3.4mm P2 Pentalobe screws next to the Lightning connector on the bottom edge of the iPhone. - Opening Procedure.
Optionally, use an iOpener or a hair drier to apply gentle heat to the iPhone's lower edge for roughly a minute.
The adhesive that secures the display weakens in the presence of heat, making it easier to open. - When the display on the iPhone 6s is opened, a tiny strip of glue around the display's border gets separated. If you wish to replace the glue, make sure you have a fresh set of sticky strips on hand before continuing. It's possible to finish the repair without changing the glue, and the difference in functionality is unlikely to be noticeable.
- Apply a suction cup to the display assembly's lower-left corner.
- Make sure the suction cup isn't over the home button.
- If your display is significantly damaged, a layer of clear packing tape over it may help the suction cup stick. Instead of using the suction cup, very strong tape might be utilized. If everything else fails, superglue the suction cup to the broken screen.
- To create a little gap between the front panel and the back case, pull up on the suction cup with firm, consistent pressure.
- Place the flat edge of a spudger right above the headphone jack in the gap between the screen and the back cover.
- To increase the gap between the front panel component and the remainder of the phone, twist the spudger.
- Place the flat end of the spudger in between the display assembly and the back case on the left side of the phone.
- To split the glue and pop the clips free, slide the spudger up the side of the phone.
- Remove the spudger and replace it on the phone's bottom edge, where you pried it open.
- Move the spudger to the right, down the phone's bottom edge.
- Continue separating the glue and popping the display clips away from the iPhone by sliding the spudger up the right side.
- To open the display, use the suction cup to break the remainder of the glue.
- To remove the suction cup from the front panel, pull up on the nub on the top side of the suction cup.
- To open the phone, gently grip the display assembly and lift it up using the clips as a hinge at the top of the front panel.
- While working on the phone, open the display to around a 90o angle and lean it against something to keep it propped up.
- To keep the display in place while you work, use a rubber band. This keeps the display cables from being overworked.
- Remove two Phillips screws with the following lengths that secure the battery connector bracket:
1. One screw with a diameter of 2.9 mm
2. One screw with a diameter of 2.2 mm - Remove the iPhone's battery connector bracket.
- Disconnect the battery connector by pulling it straight up from the logic board with the point of a spudger.
- To avoid any unintentional connection to the battery while working, pull the battery connector away from the logic board until it is freed from its socket.
- Remove the four Phillips screws that hold the display cable bracket in place:
1. Three screws with a diameter of 1.2 mm
2. One screw with a diameter of 2.8 mm - Remove the bracket that holds the display cable.
- Disconnect the front camera flex cable by pulling it straight up from its socket on the logic board with a spudger or a clean fingernail.
- Pry the digitizer cable straight up from its connector on the logic board to disconnect it.
- Pry the display cable straight up from its connector on the logic board to disconnect it.
- Remove the display assembly from the display.
- Peel back the tips of the two adhesive strips along the bottom border of the battery with tweezers.
- Slowly remove one of the battery adhesive tabs away from the battery, toward the iPhone's bottom.
- Pull slowly until the strip slips out from between the battery and the back cover, maintaining steady strain on the strip. Pull the strip at a 60o angle or less for optimal results.
- Carry on with the second strip in the same manner.
- Skip to step 27 if both sticky strips were successfully removed.
- Allow the alcohol solution to weaken the adhesive for about one minute. Lift the battery gently with the flat end of a spudger.
- Continue to the following step if both adhesive strips have been effectively removed. If not, you'll have to remove the battery out of the back casing.
- Prepare an iOpener and place it directly over the battery on the back of the rear case. You can also use a heat gun or a hairdryer to impart heat.
- After that, gently lift the battery using a plastic opening tool.
- Remove the battery from the device.
