Updates to Futurerestore allow Unsigned Restores to iOS and iPadOS 14 for Jailbreakers

If you have been following the jailbreak community, then you must already be aware that there is an upcoming jailbreak for iOS and iPadOS 14 being worked upon by CoolStar. But the exploit that it will be using currently only supports iOS and iPadOS 14.0 – 14.3 and doesn’t work on the current 14.4 or the upcoming firmware, 14.5.

And the main problem for would-be jailbreakers is that iOS and iPadOS 14.0 – 14.3 are not signed by Apple so moving to these firmwares through traditional method is just not possible. So, basically anyone who wasn’t already using iOS or iPadOS 14.0 – 14.3 would have missed out on the first semi-untethered iOS 14 jailbreak.

What is Futurestore?

Futurestore is basically a tool that is used by the jailbreaking community so that the savvy users can move between the firmwares, even the ones that Apple is no longer signing. For this, the user needs to have the .shsh2 blobs for the firmware that they want to move to and these must be saved when Apple was still signing them. Also, your firmware needs to have a jailbreak. If you meet all these criteria, then you can easily move between the firmwares without needing the Apple’s signing system.

The only issue with futurestore is that it was recently broken on all devices that had A11 or a newer chip. And even after the fixes were made for iOS 14, futurestore was still only working for people who has iPhone 7 or an older model. And when the news of the upcoming jailbreak for iOS and iPadOS 14.0 – 14.3 was released, it was too late for a lot of users to restore the firmware as the Apple wasn’t signing it anymore and they couldn’t use the futurestore as well.

Thankfully, after crowdfunding and a bit traction, fixes started to be shared again. So far, the issues for A11 and A12 devices have been fixed while testing for A13 and A14 is underway.

What is the Upshot of all this?

Basically, what we are trying to say is that if you have a device on iOS or iPadOS 14.0 – 14.3, then stay at it and do not update it. There is a jailbreak being released soon. If you have an A11 device and iOS or iPadOS 14.0 – 14.3 and you have the blobs saved for 14.3 then your current firmware is jailbreakable and you will be able to move to 14.3 when time comes.

Also, if you have an A10 or below device and iOS or iPadOS 14.0 – 14.3 and you have the blobs saved for any of the 14.0 - 14.3 then your current firmware is jailbreakable and you will be able to move to any of 14.0 - 14.3 when time comes.

Things to Note

Basically, for A11+ device, you need 14.3 blobs and a jailbreak on your current firmware to make this work, blobs for 14.0 – 14.2 won’t work for you. And if you have an A10 or below device, then you need to have blobs in the range 14.0 – 14.3 and a jailbreak on the current firmware to make it work.

You can also use futurestore with 14.4 blobs but it won’t be of any use as the upcoming jailbreaks don’t support the firmware. Presently, A9 – A12 along with iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4 only work with futurestore’s iOS 14 fixes.
