We played it over the weekend and had a great time - it's a great party game.
What is SongPop Party?
FreshPlanet's SongPop is a series of head-to-head music trivia games created by Gameloft. In May 2012, the first title in the series was published as a free app for iOS, Android, Windows, and Facebook. The app had been downloaded 100 million times by 2015.
SongPop 2, a sequel that includes over 100,000 songs and 1,000 curated playlists, was published in July 2015 and is available for free with in-app purchases.
On March 18, 2021, a third game, SongPop 3, was launched. It has features including live one-on-one multiplayer, joining teams, listening to entire playlists with Spotify and Apple Music integration, and many complex settings. Due to difficulties with iOS 12, SongPop 1 was shut down in November 2018, and customers were recommended to switch to SongPop 2.
FreshPlanet, a venture-backed firm based in New York City that created the SongPop brand, was purchased by Gameloft in December 2018.
The game is similar to the popular television show Name That Tune. Five songs are played after picking a themed playlist. Players compete to be the first to accurately identify the song title or artist from a list of four options.
For each song, iTunes links are provided. The more quickly a player guesses, the more points he or she earns. Using song note chips, players can erase two songs.
For the first time in SongPop 2, users can compete against a computer-controlled opponent alone.
The British Academy Games Awards awarded SongPop 1 Best Facebook Game 2012, Social Gaming People's Voice Winner 2013, and Best Online Game 2013.
Mark Zuckerberg wrote on Facebook shortly after the game's release, "Song Pop is one of the most fun Facebook games I've played in a while."
Explicit lyrics may be present in some tracks. As a result, the game is classified 12+ on iTunes and 16+ on Common Sense Media.
