ReachPlayer

Apple is aware of the fact that its largest handsets cannot be handled single-handedly which is why all the modern iPhones are equipped with an accessibility feature known as Reachability.

Most users use the Reachability feature, especially if you have a huge 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max. But one thing that you might have thought about is how much screen is wasted at the top of the display when you use this feature. Apple could have used this empty space to show the device information but they have just left it empty which severely impacts the aesthetics of the device as well.

This is why jailbreak community works so that such problems can be fixed and since the jailbreak tool for iOS 14.0 – 14.3 devices is available now, there are a lot of iOS 14-centric jailbreak tweaks being developed around the clock. One such new and free jailbreak tweak that you might want to check out is the ReachPlayer by iOS developer ETHN.

As the name suggests, this jailbreak tweak fills up the empty space that is left by the Reachability interface. It adds Now Playing command center here where you can see the Now Playing album artwork along with other details such as what is playing, album’s name, song’s name, artist name, and a lot more.

This tweak doesn’t offer media controls, which is fine because Reachability interface was designed to move the unreachable elements close to your thumb. So, if the tweak were to add the controls high up, it wouldn’t make much sense in the terms of usability.

Basically, ReachPlayer is just for information purpose and it doesn’t take a lot of effort to take a quick glance at the top of the display as much it would take to move your thumb to the top of the display. After installing ReachPlayer, you can access the dedicated preference pane in the Settings app to configure the tweak.

For configuration, you have options such as:

  • Turn on or off ReachPlayer
  • Enable or disable the background blur effect
  • Manage the chevron transparency, artwork display, horizontal positioning, and vertical positioning with the slider
  • Set a custom timeout period for the Reachability

There is a complementary button at the top-right to save the changes and users will be asked if they wish to respring the device when they tap on it.

If you wish to try out ReachPlayer, then you can download it free of cost from ETHN’s repository using the favorite package manager. This tweak is currently supported on jailbroken iOS 13 and 14 devices.
