Pixelmator Pro goes half price ahead of a new AI-powered crop feature coming soon

A fantastic Photoshop alternative Pixelmator Pro is offering a 50% discount on its regular price while also revealing an early look at a new crop feature powered by artificial intelligence (AI).

Highlights from the story include:

  • Pixelmator Pro for macOS has a 50% discount.
  • The software usually costs $40 per download.
  • This is a limited-time offer.
  • A sneak look at an upcoming 2.1 update was shared by the team.
  • ML Crop, an AI-powered crop feature, is included in the update.

Pixelmator Pro's price has been halved

Pixelmator Pro for macOS is usually $40 in the App Store, a reasonable price for such a well-developed, well-supported image editor that checks all the boxes in terms of performance, ease of use, and being a good Mac citizen.

The limited-time offer could end at any time, so if you've been debating whether or not to buy the app, now's your chance to do so for just $20.

The ML Crop function in Pixelmator Pro 2.1

The Pixelmator team used this opportunity to share an early preview of a new ML Crop feature in the upcoming Pixelmator Pro 2.1 in a blog post on the Pixelmator website. It uses artificial intelligence, machine learning, and Apple's Neural network in the new M1 Macs and is dubbed ML Crop (as in "Machine Learning Crop").

What is the purpose of ML Crop?

"It uses a machine-learning algorithm to analyze the structure of images and then suggests how you should crop the picture to make it more appealing. Above all, we want you to enjoy this feature by bringing you new perspectives on a common photo editing job. And it seems that's just how it'll go!"

The function still works without the Neural engine, but you'll have to keep your eyes on the spinning ball because it'll be much slower without the Neural engine accelerators.

Other Pixelmator Pro 2.1 updates

Pixelmator Pro 2.1 adds new features and enhancements to the crop tool.

For example, the Pixelmator Pro 2.1 interface now finally allows you to see and set your primary and secondary colors in a Photoshop-like manner. Also, using the magic of drag and drop, you can change the color of any object in a text.

Pixelmator Pro 2.1 is available for download in the Apple App Store.
