The jailbreak enthusiasts who are currently enjoying the Odyssey Team’s Taurine jailbreak tool to jailbreak their iOS and iPadOS 14.0 – 14.3 devices might have noticed something unusual as a part of the package which is known as the Jailbreak Updater.
Well, an announcement was made early in the morning today on the Sileo / Taurine / Odyssey Discord channel by CoolStar, the lead developer of Odyssey, that this is a novel package that will allow the users with a Terminal app on their iPad or iPhone to the latest version of the Taurine jailbreak while staying in the jailbroken state.
From what we have figured out so far about this package, any user who installs this package on their Taurine pwned device can run the ‘jbupdate’ command as root in their chosen Terminal app and it will install the latest Taurine jailbreak patch without the user needing to go to AltStore to update the package in the jailed state. Once that is done, it will also perform a reboot.
This is honestly the most convenient way to get the latest Taurine jailbreak patch on their device that has the latest fixes and the improvements without requiring the user to be near a computer to carry this out. However, the users will still need to upgrade the actual Taurine app on their jailbroken device using AltStore since this extension doesn’t update the jailbreak app itself. Moreover, if you reboot once you have used the ‘jbupdate’ command then you would be running the old jailbreak app itself and will be at square one again.
According to the announcement, Jailbreak Updater offers support to the latest Taurine v1.0.3 update that was released today and will also offer support to iOS and iPadOS 13-centric Odyssey jailbreak tool once it receives an update with the support. Moreover, CoolStar also mentions that although currently this feature can be used by power users only, in the future this feature will be rolled out for all users in the Configurator app. However, you can still try out this feature, all you would need is a mobile Terminal app to use it.
