Just before the season one finale, Apple renewed "The Mosquito Coast" for a second season on Apple TV+.

"The Mosquito Coast" is a film about an inventor and his family fleeing from the United States government. On the 40th anniversary of the book that inspired the series, a seven-episode first season was made.

"'The Mosquito Coast' has captivated audiences all over the world, not just for its adrenaline-fueled action and adventure, but also for the intriguing family story and riveting performances at its heart," Apple's head of programming, Matt Cherniss, said. "We can't wait to see what the Fox family does next and for fans to keep having a good time."

The novel, which turns forty this year, was previously adapted into a 1986 Peter Weir-directed film starring Harrison Ford, Watercourse Phoenix, Helen of Troy Mirren, and Martha Plimpton, which received two Golden Globe nominations.

Despite the novel's "own finite conclusion," Justin Theroux said at Deadline's TV Contenders that "it's still sort of TBD for Neil [Cross] in what areas we want to start to play in if we're lucky enough to get the following season, and a third and fourth."
