What is Process Explorer?
Process Explorer shows you information about which handles and DLLs processes have opened or loaded a particular file or directory.
Process Explorer display consists of two sub-windows. The top window shows you a list of the current processes that are active, including the names of their owning accounts. Information displayed in the bottom window depends on the mode that is active in Process Explorer. If it is in handle mode the user can see the handles that the process selected in the top window has opened.
Process Explorer can be also used in DLL mode. If you will choose this option the user will see the DLLs and memory-mapped files that the process has loaded. Process Explorer offers also a powerful search feature that will show you quickly which processes have particular handles opened or DLLs loaded.
The capabilities of Process Explorer make this tool very useful for tracking down DLL-version problems or handle leaks. The app provides insight into the way Windows and applications work.
