About Pencil

Pencil is built for a purpose of providing a free and open-source Graphical User Interface prototyping tool that people can simply install and use for creating mockups on popular PC platforms. Pencil provides several built-in shapes collection to draw different types of UI ranging from desktops to mobile platforms. Starting from version 2.0.2, Pencil has been shipped with the Android and iOS UI stencils which are pre-installed. This makes it much easier to start prototyping applications with a simple installation. Starting from version 2.0.2 the app has more shape collections that are included by default. The list of all built-in collections now also includes general-purpose shapes, desktop/web UI shapes, Android, flowchart elements, and iOS GUI shapes. Many other collections are created by the community and distributed freely over the Internet. One can easily grab a collection and then install it into a tool with a simple drag-and-drop operation. The tool supports outputting drawing documents into many different types of formats.

You can even have your own drawing exported as a set of rasterized PNG files and even as a web page that can be delivered to viewers. The app also supports exporting the documents to popular formats which include the OpenOffice/LibreOffice text documents, the Inkscape SVG, and the Adobe PDF. The product has a clipart browser tool that integrates with OpenClipart.org to let its users easily finding clipart by the keywords and add them into their drawing by simple drag-and-drop operations. The clipart listed by this tool is in the vector format and hence it is good for users in scaling appropriate sizes.

Download & Install Pencil

Download->

  1. On the side, you will find a button saying "Download". Click on it.

  2. On the next page, you will be interrupted to start the download, click on "Start Download".

  3. Your download would automatically begin.

Installation->

  1. After your download is complete, head towards the downloads folder.

  2. Run the setup file, if prompted by User Account Control, click on yes.

  3. Go through the installation settings as per your preferences and click on Install.

  4. Once the installation is complete, run the application.
