ExifTool supports a wide variety of metadata formats, including EXIF, GPS, IPTC, XMP, JFIF, GeoTIFF, ICC Profile, Photoshop IRB, FlashPix, AFCP and ID3, Lyrics3, as well as Canon, Casio, DJI, FLIR, FujiFilm, GE, GoPro, HP, JVC/Victor, Kodak, Leaf, Minolta/Konica-Minolta, Motorola, Nikon, Nintendo, Olympus/Epson, and many other digital cameras.

Even available as a stand-alone Windows executable and a MacOS kit is ExifTool developed by Phil Harvey. Perl is not needed for the stand-alone Windows Executable.

Features of ExifTool

ExifTool comes with a wide array of features, most of which are mentioned below.

Quick & Powerful

ExifTool is Strong, simple, scalable, and customizable.

Multiple System Support

ExifTool supports an extensive range of formats of various files for adding and editing their metadata.

Effective Metadata Reader

ExifTool reads and writes several digital cameras’ manufacturer notes, reads timed metadata from MOV/MP4/M2TS/AVI videos, has numerous formatting options for output (including tab-delimited, HTML, XML, and JSON), and provides multi-lingual results (cs, de, en, en-ca, en-GB, es, fi, fr, it, ja, ko, nl, pl, ru, sv, tr, zh-cn or zh-tw).

Image Geotagging

ExifTool can geotag photos with time drift correction from GPS track log files, generates logs for tracks from geotagged photos, and shifts values of date and time to fix timestamps in photos.

Efficient Metadata Editor

ExifTool renames and organizes files into folders by date or by any other meta information, extracts RAW files from thumbnail images, sample images, and large JPEG images, copies metadata between files even different-format files, reads and writes XMP information that is organized, deletes metadata individually, in groups, or absolutely, and sets the date of modification of the file and date of development on Mac and Windows from EXIF details.

Download & Install ExifTool for Windows PC

To download the latest version of ExifTool, visit Phil Harvey’s official ExifTool website or get it from any other tech website absolutely free.

For working, ExifTool does not need to be installed. There is a choice of two separate versions of ExifTool to run on Windows. The Perl distribution includes the installation of Perl on your system. It’s easier to install the stand-alone ExifTool executable if you don’t already have Perl, but remember that the stand-alone version doesn’t have the HTML documentation or any other complete distribution files. Download and extract either the entire Mac/Linux Perl distribution or the version of Windows EXE on Windows and run it directly.

  1. Download Windows Executable from the home page of ExifTool.

  2. Extract ‘ExifTool(-k).exe’ and put it on your desktop from the ‘.zip’ file.

  3. Rename ‘ExifTool(-k).exe’ to ‘exiftool.exe’.

  4. Move ‘exiftool.exe’ to the ‘C:\WINDOWS’ directory or any other directory in your path.

You are all set now to use the ExifTool software to read, write, and edit the metadata of all your files seamlessly and effortlessly. Enjoy!
